Traveling with a child is always a challenge, but traveling with twins is a whole different ballgame. Not only did we have an extremely active toddler to keep up with, but we had two of them! Whether it was the playground, beach, or the park, we’d be on double duty all the time. That’s why we decided to invest in one of the best things we did for the twins – umbrella strollers for twins.

Whether it was transporting the twins from the car to the grocery store or getting a much-needed morning walk as my tiny tots napped in their stroller seats, our double-duty stroller was more than just a way to transport from point A to point B. It was a way for us to step out of the house for some fresh air; it was our ticket to freedom. And these things were so very important all the time, whether it was the early months when we were adapting to having two little humans or when they were hyperactive tots bouncing around everywhere. To that end, here’s a detailed guide to double strollers for two kids.

Thanks to the five-point safety harness, we didn’t have to worry about their safety as we went jogging, with the 360-degree shock-absorbing front swivel wheels greatly helping our case. All in all, this is a nice, lightweight, and compact frame umbrella stroller for easy travel and storage.

Moreover, the UPF 45+ canopies were large enough to almost fully shield the kids from the elements, whether wind, rain, or sun. What helped was the mesh window with magnetic closures, which allowed the kids to peek out and gave us a quick way to check on the kiddos. The BOB Gear Flex 3.0 Duallie Jogging Stroller is one of the best we’ve made in baby gear being jogging parents. When it came to going running with the twins, there was no better double stroller than the Thule Urban Glide 3 Double Stroller. There was simply no landscape (other than sand and snow, of course) that this stroller couldn’t handle, and then some. There were many features that we loved, starting with the front locking wheel that allowed us to run without the stroller feeling unstable. Thanks to the back air-filled tires, the long chassis, and the independent suspension, our babies were comfy and stable even on uneven surfaces such as cobblestones and boardwalks. Nuna Trvl DBL Stroller

2

Easiest to fold. The Nuna Trvl DBL Stroller solves multiple problems: it was not basic, it wasn’t too wide while being spacious, and it wasn’t a pain to fold. In fact, it was the easiest side-by-side double stroller that we’d ever folded, while being narrow enough to make it through most doors. Its durability is a huge plus point, with the materials designed to take a beating. Even though it’s spot-clean only, it wasn’t challenging to get stains out. Our kiddos especially loved the dual-extending canopies with peekaboo windows. Plus, the zipper was easy to deal with and even had a cover so it wouldn’t leak in inclement weather or make the canopy sway in the wind. Finally, the all-wheel suspension made the ride on this second to none.

Specifications

  • Type: Side-by-side
  • Stroller Weight: 25.5 lbs/11.5 kg
  • Folded Dimensions: 30.5 x 19.75 x 27.75 inches

  • Disney Approved: Yes

  • The stroller fit through most doors.
  • It was easy to push and move around.
  • The one-handed fold was the easiest on the list.

Cons

  • It only fits one car seat.

Austlen Entourage 2.0 Stroller

1

Sitting at the top of the list is the very expensive – but the most amazing – Austlen Entourage 2.0 Stroller. Unlike any other stroller we’d seen, this nifty single-to-double stroller also converted into a sit-and-stand stroller. So, when we only had one kid with us, the other part would expand to hold our groceries, luggage, etc. Mostly assembled out of the box, all we needed to do was stick on the bumpers and the wheels, and we were good to go. It also came with an accordion-style bag that attached between the telescoping handlebars and the seat, providing additional storage space besides the spacious undercarriage basket. It could also hold two car seats from most brands, a gliding four-wheel suspension, and bouncy, never-flat tires that were always responsive. What more could we ask for?

Check out the official product page for more details.

“Once we learnt to maneuver the stroller, it was one hell of a luxurious ride for our little ones. It glided over all kinds of surfaces and managed obstacles easily.”

Our Verdict!

While we loved all the double strollers on this list, here’s a specialized list to help you choose.

How To Choose The Best Umbrella Strollers For Twins?

Types Of Double Strollers

  • Side-by-Side: The boss of this category, these double strollers have gone from being unwieldy and difficult to manage to being a lot more amazing in recent years, with lots of storage, independent suspension, and more.
  • Tandem: Traditional tandem strollers have two permanent seats, one in front of the other. While they’re bulkier had heavier, they’re usually convertible strollers that can hold stroller seats, bassinets, and one or two car seats.
  • Jogging/Sport: These are perfect for active parents and the best ones have good canopy coverage, excellent suspension, and are lightweight. Check out the best best rear-facing jogging strollers.
  • Lightweight; Now, we hate to be the bearers of bad news, but there aren’t many great lightweight double strollers, and for a good reason. However, if you do find any, look for ones that fold up well and fit in car boots and overhead bins.

Weight and Age Limits

After deciding the kind of stroller you want, you need to consider the age and weight limits on the strollers according to the manufacturer’s guidelines. Do remember: Babies need to be able to sit up on their own to use strollers.

Comfort

In the end, strollers are seats for your babies, so you need to ensure that they’re comfortable. The best of the lot have reclining and nicely padded seats, good airflow, a good-sized sun canopy, and even a footrest for babies to rest their feet. Additionally, and we say this for the sake of caregivers and parents, look for strollers that allow you to maintain a proper posture. That means the size of the stroller and the presence of adjustable handles.

Portability/Maneuverability

In the end, the idea of a double stroller is to be out and about with two kids. We’ve always looked at portability and maneuverability while also checking whether the lightweight nature of the strollers is due to less storage space, shock absorption, and cushioning or not. Secondly, we looked for straps for lifting and carrying the stroller on our shoulders or backs. Finally, we looked for ones with front swivel wheels, which make it easier to turn and navigate tight spaces.

Assembly

We didn’t want to break our heads assembling the stroller, so we looked for ones that either came completely assembled or required minimal work to get them ready for the road. Many excellent assembly-free options aside, there were even ones that could be assembled in less than 15 minutes.

Storage

Finally, look for a good amount of storage in double strollers, as you’re going to require a ton of stuff to step out with your twins:

When can you put babies in double strollers?

Double strollers can usually accommodate two kids from when they’re newborns till they reach the age of five years.

How do I know if I need a double stroller?

If you have twins with the same schedule, then double strollers are very convenient. However, if your kids have different caretakers and schedules, then two separate strollers offer more flexibility.

Can I bring a double stroller on a flight?

Generally, airlines have size restrictions on strollers allowed beyond security checkpoints. However, most of them allow both single and double strollers that meet the size requirements and can be easily folded.
