Just because you’ve reached that stage in life where you have to walk around with a diaper bag doesn’t mean that you have to sacrifice your personal style. We didn’t! After all, carrying baby bags didn’t mean that we would have to abandon our sartorial values now, right? And if we are going to lug diapers around everywhere, then it wouldn’t hurt to have a well-designed vessel. Enter: luxury diaper bag brands, which were the chicest way to hold all of our baby’s essentials. These designer baby bags were our personal “No Sacrifice Zones,” which made us the very envy of our “Mommy & Me” group. Here’s a lowdown on the best designer brands for diaper bags, and how and where to get hold of them.

Hermès

13

The family-owned luxury fashion house Hermes was founded by Thierry Hermès in 1937 as a harness workshop in Paris, initially designing equestrian accessories for European noblemen. Over the years, the brand expanded into high-quality and luxurious leather goods, clothing, and silk scarves, furthering its repute as a global icon of elegance and craftsmanship.

Also, how can we possibly leave Hermès off this list when Kim Kardashian herself has used the iconic Hermes Birkin as a diaper bag?

While we’re all excited about the Birkin, what we actually loved as a diaper bag was the Hermès Air Line MM Canvas Tote Bag. With a tough canvas exterior and a supple, lined interior, the bag was very roomy for carrying all baby essentials, including diapers, bottles, clothes, and whatnot. We loved the top carry handles that didn’t dig into our shoulders when we hauled it over them. Not only was it easy to clean and maintain, but also the brand’s logo right on the front made it look very stylish as well.

Pros

  • The bag is tough, durable, and stylish.
  • It was very roomy and spacious.
  • It works as a unisex diaper bag!

Cons

  • It doesn’t have a shoulder strap.

Balenciaga

12

Balenciaga’s roots can be traced back to 1919 in Spain, when Cristóbal Balenciaga was designing luxury accessories for Spanish nobility. It reached Paris in 1937, and it hasn’t looked back since, challenging traditional fashion with design-bending luxury clothing and accessories, including handbags.

Of them all, we were most impressed with the Balenciaga Bazar Black Crocodile Leather Medium Shopper Tote Bag. This timeless black tote bag came with top handles, two inner slip pockets, a spacious main compartment, and a zipper closure, making it perfect for storing and carrying baby essentials. Complementing and completing the look is the gold-toned hardware, which sets off the black crocodile look and makes it look even better.

Pros

  • The bag came with foot studs, inner pockets, and a zipper closure.
  • The size of the bag was perfect.
  • It was as stylish as it was functional.

Cons

  • It didn’t have shoulder straps.

TUMI

11

Best backpack. The Edison, New Jersey-based luxury bag brand Tumi found a lot of takers when it launched, with its popularity graph only rising since then. This 1975-founded brand is named after the ceremonial Peruvian Tumi knife used for sacrifices after founder Charlie Clifford’s stint in the Peace Corps in the country. Tumi products’ signature is the black-on-black ballistic nylon, which is also evident in the Tumi Voyageur Halsey Travel Backpack, one of our favorite products from the brand as new parents.

This commuter backpack offered tech-savvy storage, which meant that apart from baby essentials, we could also stash our laptop, smartphone, and even a small pad in the two media pockets. What’s more, the backpack even had multiple compartments, including a water-resistant bottle pocket, making it perfect for stashing newborn baby bottles. Rounding things up was the fact that the bag was trackable, as it was part of the exclusive TUMI Tracer program.

Pros

  • The backpack was as stylish as it was functional and versatile.
  • It came with multiple compartments and was very spacious.
  • It was a tech-savvy backpack, allowing us to carry work essentials too.

Cons

  • Some mentioned that the bag sat low on their back.

Christian Dior

10

French couturier Christian Dior’s eponymous fashion house, Dior, has been revolutionary since the very beginning. While it doesn’t have a specific line or collection associated with diaper bags, it does have a range of lifestyle baby products and, more importantly, a line of iconic bags that parents who love fashion love using.

The Christian Dior Trotter Tote Bag is one of the classiest tote bags we’ve seen from the brand. Crafted from a combination of leather and canvas, this bag featured the brand’s signature design in beige and brown, with the gold-toned metal hardware complementing the look perfectly. We loved the bag’s structure, which allowed us to place it down anywhere.

Pros

  • The bag was structured and wouldn’t fall over when we placed it down.
  • The top handles made it very easy to carry.
  • It was stylish yet functional.

Cons

  • It doesn’t come with a shoulder strap.

Givenchy

9

Whoever said that only mommies had to carry diaper bags? After all, today’s hands-on daddies love toting around their baby’s essentials too. Givenchy is one luxury designer brand that, interestingly, designs all kinds of diaper baby bags, which is the last thing we expected from the brand! It has many versatile bag choices for parents, complete with roomy, stylish, and versatile options.

We’re talking about the Givenchy Men’s Logo Mini Backpack, a sleek black diaper backpack that’s a versatile choice with a sporty yet unisex flair. The compact design featured a flap top with a buckle closure, ensuring that all the baby’s essentials stayed within the bag. Moreover, the adjustable straps made it a breeze to carry the backpack, especially when it was full, with the side zipped pockets adding to the convenience.

Pros

  • We loved the adjustable shoulder straps for carrying convenience.
  • The side zippered pockets held a lot of stuff.
  • The bag boasted a secure closure.

Cons

  • The flap top closure might make it a bit challenging to handle the bag and the baby together.

Loewe

8

The renowned Spanish luxury brand Loewe’s origins date back to 1846, with Spanish craftsmen making high-quality leather goods. 30 years later, Enrique Loewe Roessberg brought technical expertise and precision to the table, with the brand eventually gaining popularity for its exquisite craftsmanship. With a slew of iconic handbags under its belt, Loewe’s enduring legacy as a luxury brand continues even today.

Of them all, we loved the Loewe Handbag Anagram Tote Bag, an extremely structured tote bag in both grained leather and calfskin versions. Our version was crafted in a hardwearing jacquard canvas exterior, with an entirely soft, supple, and luxurious inner calfskin lining. A major plus point was that the bag had both a softer calfskin leather shoulder strap and braided top leather handles, so we could stash all baby essentials and carry them in multiple ways. A calfskin tie fastening rounds up the features of the bag.

Pros

  • The bag comes in two versions and three sizing options.
  • It’s extremely roomy and spacious.
  • The bag can be carried in two ways.

Cons

  • It doesn’t have a zipper fastening.

Yves Saint Laurent

7

Interestingly, YSL (Yves Saint Laurent) doesn’t specifically have a “diaper bag” collection or line. However, what makes their bags such a favorite with mommies is that several of their handbag styles are perfect in design and space for carrying baby essentials. Not only do they feature high-quality craftsmanship, but they also boast classic designs and functionality.

One of the most popular bags among fashion-conscious mommies is the Saint Laurent Sac De Jour Baby Handbag, making it a stylish alternative to a traditional diaper bag. Leather-lined and spacious, the bag has some distinguishing features, such as the brass padlock, the snap tabs, and the accordion sides. Thanks to the adjustable shoulder strap, we could even wear it across our bodies. The interior zippered pocket was a blessing, especially for stashing our keys as opposed to having to rummage through the bag to look for them.

Pros

  • The five metal feet mean that we could place the bag down anywhere.
  • Thanks to the inner pocket, we had a place to store our phone and keys.
  • It was a blend of fashion and function.

  • It had no color options.
  • It was very expensive.

Best tote. Who would have thought that we’d see the name “Karl Lagerfeld” associated with diaper bags? But it’s true. The brand best known for its fashionable designs, including for brands like its own namesake label and other brands like Chanel, focuses on high-fashion clothing and accessories for adults, including mommies – hence the presence of diaper bags in their collection.

We’re talking about the Karl Lagerfeld Paris Karolina Tote Bag boasts a classic, luxurious design, complete with the brand’s signature chain details and leather quilting. We loved the zipper pocket and two slip pockets to organize all of the baby’s things, along with an external zipper that kept everything secure and within the bag. At the same time, the tote added elegance to our outfits and didn’t give off the appearance of a diaper bag.

Pros

  • We loved the pebble fabric of the bag, which gave it an upscale look and appearance.
  • The tote bag was very spacious and yet chic enough for us to tote around.
  • The zipper closure kept all things inside, no matter how we moved.

Cons

  • The bag was available only in black and white.

Luli Bebe was founded in 2017 by Arpi Kachatryan, who drew inspiration from her two newborn cousins, Lily and Lucy – hence the name “Luli.” The brand, which initially focused on sourcing European baby brands, quickly launched its own unique line, starting with the Monaco Diaper Bag.

When we’re talking about the brand’s iconic bags, what could be better than its signature bag, the Petit Monaco Diaper bag by Luli Bebe? One of the best small backpacks for toddlers who’ve already been potty trained, this bag could not only be worn as a backpack but also came with a long shoulder strap so we could wear it as a crossbody. Not just that, but also it came with stroller straps so we could even attach it to our carry-on or check-in suitcase while traveling. Compact, versatile, and organized, this bag was the perfect hands-free designer diaper bag for us.

Coach

Best travel diaper bag. Coach has a rich history that dates as far back as 1941, filling the “affordable luxury handbag” niche extremely well. It’s the same with diaper bags from the brand, which are the best starter designer diaper bags for mommies. Their diaper bags gained popularity in the early 2000s, blending function and fashion effectively.

Of them all, we loved the classic Coach Signature Stripe Multifunction Baby Diaper Travel Tote Bag. Crafted from leather with a patented leather trim, this bag featured the signature striped fabric from the brand that’s both water- and stain-resistant. What’s more, it also had a full-length zippered back pocket with a leather pull as well as a frontal full-length slip pocket. So, we could stash all baby essentials in the main pocket and quick-stash ones in these easy-access pockets. Rounding up the features were the detachable longer strap, the zip-top closure, and the included changing pad.

We’re talking about the Marc by Marc Jacobs Crosby Nylon Quilted Diaper Bag, a bag that’s known for its playful design, functionality, and versatility. The bag is a blend of exceptional luxury and elevated utility, featuring an exterior zippered pocket, a changing pad for babies, and a secure zipper closure. Our Verdict!

We bring you this smaller, specialized, and curated list of the best luxury brands for baby bags based on their best features:

How To Choose The Best Luxury Diaper Bags?

Personal Needs

The first thing we did was determine how we would be primarily using the diaper bag to decide its type and size. For instance, we needed just a compact bag for brief outings. However, we would need a larger and more equipped and customized option for day-long or road trips.

Style

The next thing to decide is what your style is. While some parents don’t like toting around with backpacks, there’s no denying their innately useful hands-free use. At the same time, some mommies love carrying their stylish tote bags on their shoulders. No matter which style you like, a baby’s diaper bag should be an extension of your fashion sense, as you’re going to be carrying it around for a few good years. We chose bags that reflected our identity and complemented our everyday wear, so we could make a statement wherever we went.

Functionality

We’ve always looked at some useful and essential functional features of diaper bags, like ergonomic straps for comfort, easy-to-clean and durable fabrics, and multiple pockets for organization. Together, these features significantly ease our daily parenting tasks. So, we’ve always looked for bags that balance design with practicality, serving us best in the long run and ensuring style and convenience.

Future Needs

Finally, we’ve always looked at future needs as well, rather than just focusing on the current. You need to anticipate the lifespan of the baby bag beyond your current baby care needs. So, choose designs that offer versatility and can seamlessly transition to regular bags, thus adapting to your changing lifestyle and maximizing your investment.

If you have a particular penchant for backpacks, then check out the best designer backpack diaper bags.

How long do diaper bags last?

Most good diaper bags can last nearly 3-5 years, when the tiny tots are potty-trained and out of their diapers, but still have a few good needs when they step out of the house.

Is there a designer diaper bag that can be used for travel?

Yes, both the Tumi backpack and the Coach signature striped multifunction baby diaper bag work very well for travel.

Which is the best overall luxury diaper bag?

That would be Gucci’s GG Plus Bag, which is the perfect blend of style and functionality.
